NET ZERO COMMITMENT: REDUCING EMISSIONS ON A 1.5°C PATH
Polygon Pets Limited believe that caring for our dogs shouldn’t come at the expense of our planet. As a small, community focused self-service dog wash company with locations across the UK, our idea has always been to provide convenient, good value, self-service dog washes utilising gentle shampoos and low impact dryers.
We understand that even our small operations contribute, albeit, in a minimal way, to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions - primarily from utilities usage, supply chain transportation and waste management.
Polygon Pets Limited are committed to achieve net zero GHG emissions across our value chain (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) by 2050, fully aligned with the 1.5°C warming pathway outlined by the Paris Agreement and guided by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
WHY 1.5°C MATTERS TO US
Limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires urgent, science-based action: global emissions must drop by at least 45% from 2010 levels by 2030 and reach net zero COâ‚‚ by around 2050, with parallel reductions in other GHGs like methane. As a small business, our emissions footprint is minimal - but every effort counts. By aligning with this pathway, we are not just reducing our impact; we are leading by example in our sector, inspiring pet owners and local businesses to join the clean energy revolution.
OUR TARGETS
We commit to the following science-aligned milestones, validated against SBTi standards:
• By 2030: Reduce absolute GHG emissions by 50% from a 2025 baseline across all scopes. This includes aiming to source our energy from renewables and cutting Scope 3 emissions (e.g. from suppliers and delivery vehicles) by prioritising local, low-carbon partners.
• By 2040: Achieve a 90% reduction in absolute emissions, with residual emissions (no more than 10%) neutralised through verified carbon removal projects, such as reforestation or direct air capture.
• By 2050: Reach net zero emissions, ensuring no net addition of GHGs to the atmosphere. Post-2050, we pledge to maintain this status through ongoing innovation and working with local partners.
HOW WE WILL GET THERE
Polygon Pets Limited will continue to scale up sustainable practices:
• Energy Efficiency & Renewables (Scopes 1 & 2): Install solar panels where possible and utilise energy-efficient products. Partner with green energy sites and providers, aiming to power our machines with renewable electricity where possible.
• Sustainable Supply Chain (Scope 3): Continue to utilise biodegradable, carbon-neutral shampoo suppliers. Optimise delivery routes with electric vehicles to reduce transport emissions by 40% by 2030.
• Waste & Water Management: Implement and reduce waste with recycling for products and packaging by 30%
• Community Engagement: Launch Green Wash Community Days for customers, provide re-usable towels and work with our partners for carbon-offset tree planting
ACCOUNTABILITY & NEXT STEPS
We will assess our emissions using SBTi-approved tools. Progress will be tracked via sustainability reports, shared openly with customers, employees and stakeholders. We will also look to join small business networks to collaborate and innovate.
